Run Time: 83 minutes
A bizarre and artistic drama starring Ethan Hawke and Kristin Scott Thomas, THE WOMAN IN THE FIFTH follows the psychological journey of a tormented and troubled American writer, Tom Ricks, who travels to Paris to restore his relationship with his young daughter. The restraining order his estranged ex-wife has, however, will prove to make this a difficult task. When Tom is robbed of nearly all his belongings, he descends down a spiral of misfortune that gets him involved in precarious and mysterious conduct. It isn't until he meets Margit, the seductive and intrepid widow who ultimately becomes his muse, that Tom starts to believe in himself and the letters he writes to his daughter. But as a series of inexplicable events takes course, Tom not only struggles with maintaining his own sanity, but also questions whether or not he is a danger to those around him. Get lost in this sensual, hypnotic enigma of a film based loosely on the Douglas Kennedy novel by the same name. (In English and French with subtitles) – M.M.
