Year: 2012
Country: CZECH REPUBLIC
Run Time: 90 minutes
Ota is getting cantankerous in his old age. His son offers to take him in so he can have much-needed eye surgery, but he's having none of it. Ota sneaks off without telling anybody to do something he's been meaning to do for a very long time: track down the beautiful actress Jana Furtakova (alias Jeanne DeFuro). He has carried a pin-up card with her picture since a chance encounter 40 years earlier. Miss DeFuro, whose firecracker personality remains undiminished, is chafing in the confines of a nursing home where she tries to jazz things up by getting the doddering residents to participate in amateur theatricals. Ota's sudden appearance is a godsend, and he helps Jana commandeer a van so she can head off to audition for a bit part in a film in Prague. Though they encounter many obstacles along the way, the septuagenarians convince us to never give up on our ambitions. Veteran actress Jiřina Bohdalová is in fine form as the feisty diva in OLDIES BUT GOLDIES. (In Czech with subtitles) – B.B.
